San Francisco-headquartered WeaveGrid, a developer of charging management software for integrating EVs into power grids, has raised $28 million in a funding round led by Woven Capital, Toyota’s growth fund.

The investment will be used to broaden collaborations with automakers and electric utilities. WeaveGrid’s EV management system is designed to enable grid-integrated EV charging, and offers utilities vehicle-to-grid capabilities and a patented approach to electric distribution optimization.

“Toyota is an invaluable collaborator in overcoming one of the most complex challenges of decarbonizing the auto industry: ensuring electric grid reliability by transforming EVs into grid-interactive assets,” said WeaveGrid CEO Apoorv Bhargava.

Charging network operator EVPassport has announced it will deploy several hundred EV chargers at Daly Seven’s portfolio of 42 hotels.

Daly Seven operates a portfolio of 42 Hilton-, Marriott- and InterContinental Hotel Group-branded hotels in three states, namely North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. This is its first foray into offering guests access to EV chargers.

“Today’s environmentally conscious travelers expect hotels to provide sustainable options, such as convenient EV charging,” Joe Daly, the hotel chain’s CEO, said, adding that he found EVPassport’s solution both reliable and easy to use.

EVPassport will install the EV chargers in convenient locations at each hotel. In addition, the EVPassport reservation system will allow guests to reserve an EV charging station at the same time that they book a room.

The deal with Daly Seven will give EVPassport an opportunity to expand its footprint in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern regions of the US.

EVE Energy unveils electric construction machinery platforms

China-based EVE Energy has introduced platforms for electric construction machinery, including its new Open Source Battery.

EVE’s platforms focus on four key areas: construction machinery, heavy-duty trucks, aerial work platforms and special machinery. They are designed to reduce charging time by 25%, exceed a lifespan of 5,000 cycles and achieve structural strength three times that of the old national standard, according to the company.

For construction vehicles, EVE Energy launched the B3P Platform, which uses Top-Bottom Liquid Cooling Technology to ensure full-temperature range operation while maintaining high strength and long lifespan. The integrated system can accommodate power demands ranging from 114 kWh to 700 kWh for conventional loaders and mining trucks.

For heavy-duty trucks and mining trucks, EVE has introduced the H3E Platform, which uses Cell-to-Pack (CTP) module-free and full-field foaming technology to increase system packaging efficiency and enhance structural reliability. The batteries can be mounted at the back or side.

For aerial work, EVE offers its ES series platform, featuring an integrated battery disconnect unit (BDU) which minimizes design costs while enhancing system reliability and space utilization. These products cater to the full series of scissor lift platforms ranging from 6 to 14 meters.

Brazilian ports jammed with 70,000 unsold Chinese EVs as tariffs loom

Brazilian ports have been clogged this year with more than 70,000 unsold Chinese electric vehicles (EV), in a sign of how hard it is becoming for China’s carmakers to keep up their robust growth.

Companies such as BYD and Great Wall Motor have global ambitions, and Brazil has become a crucial proving ground with many other large economies turning towards protectionism. The country is the world’s sixth-biggest car market and success there may boost prospects across the region.

But after taking Brazil’s nascent EV sector by storm, China’s carmakers are facing increasing challenges. The glut of cars at the ports stems from them trying to avoid new tariffs. Domestic competitors have responded with additional electric options and investment. Plus, the country’s EV growth rate is cooling, like much of the world.
